About the Opportunity
Tablelands Regional Council is seeking a full-time Lead Compliance Advisor - Water & Waste based in Tolga, QLD, on a 12-month maximum-term contract.
Reporting to the Manager Water & Waste, you'll provide specialist leadership across environmental compliance, drinking water quality, wastewater, waste operations and regulatory reporting while helping drive continual improvement across the department.
More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Leading Drinking Water Quality Management programs in accordance with statutory requirements and the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines
- Providing specialist compliance advice across water, wastewater and waste operations
- Developing and improving Standard Operating Procedures, compliance systems and operational processes
- Supporting environmental management systems, audits and regulatory reporting
- Coordinating water quality sampling, data management and compliance reporting
- Managing compliance requirements relating to Environmental Authorities and Council's referable dams
- Liaising with government agencies, consultants and internal stakeholders
- Supporting the implementation and ongoing improvement of Council's Drinking Water Quality Management Plan
- Turning identified compliance risks into practical improvement projects
- Visiting operational sites to build strong relationships with frontline teams and support continuous improvement

About You
To qualify, you'll need either a tertiary qualification in Environmental Management or Environmental Science, or at least five years' experience in a compliance role within the water and waste industries.
You'll also demonstrate experience in environmental management and water and waste compliance within local government or a similarly regulated environment.
The following experience will be highly regarded:
- Strong knowledge of water, wastewater and solid waste operations
- Thorough understanding of the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines
- Experience with Drinking Water Quality Management Plans and Environmental Management Systems
- Environmental auditing, risk management and regulatory reporting experience
- Strong stakeholder engagement and negotiation skills
- Supervisory or team leadership experience
- Current Driver Licence
